While looking up words in Katakana, I found that common words that are expressed in Katakana usually fall into the categories of electronics/technology and Western cuisine. For example, butter is "バター" and keyboard is "キーボー." I found it interesting why these words are loanwords and why they do not have their own Japanese word. I did a little bit of research to find out that words pertaining to electronics/technology are usually Katakana expressions because western terms apparently give a sense of modernity. Furthermore, the Japanese use Katakana expressions for Western cuisine because it may "look cool" and gives the impression of the food being Western. Overall, I found it very interesting how the Japanese use loanwords. Below are lists of electronics/technology and Western cuisine in Katakana!
